GENERAL FAQ
1) What is Habitat for Humanity?
Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in nearly 1,400 communities across the United States and in approximately 70 countries around the world. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward our vision by building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with people and families in need of a decent and affordable home.

2) How does Habitat for Humanity homeownership work?
Families in need of decent, affordable housing apply for homeownership with their local Habitat for Humanity and earn an opportunity to purchase a home.
Each local Habitat’s family selection committee selects homeowners based on three criteria:
• The applicant’s level of need.
• Their willingness to partner with Habitat.
• Their ability to repay a mortgage through an affordable payment plan.
As part of their willingness to partner, Habitat’s homebuyers invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, called sweat equity, working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners.
Habitat for Humanity follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection. Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing Habitat’s homeowners.

4) Does Habitat St. Charles take donations?
Habitat for Humanity welcomes a wide variety of donations.
Monetary donations are our favorite. Big or small, we welcome each dollar as it allows us the flexibility to purchase items most needed such as nails, lumber, siding or more.
Donations of new building materials or select services such as roofing materials or the labor to install that are suitable for the current year’s projects are also welcome. These donations may require some coordination with our construction department.
Our ReStore welcomes new or gently used building materials and so much more. Our drop off lane and pick up service makes donating easy.
We also welcome the donation of usable land (suitable for construction) located within St. Charles County.
